The holiday season has long been known as one of the most stressful times of the year. Families that may not have seen each other in a long time are getting together, and there is also the stress of trying to locate and purchase the perfect gifts for everyone who is on your list. There are many at home shopping channels, websites on the internet and stores that you can go to in order to find the perfect gift for those on your list, whoever they may be. There is however, the out of town relatives that no doubt many people will be shopping for, and this poses another problem.

The shipping of these gifts and wine baskets is just as important as purchasing them. It makes no sense to spend valuable resources purchasing these gifts if they are going to be damaged during shipping.

The first thing that you want to do, especially when shipping a gift, is to be sure to select the right sized box. If the gift has a lot of room to move, it is more than likely that it has enough room to break. It also helps when you are shipping multiple items to bubble wrap them separately, and then tape them together. This allows the items to remain protected, and keep them from hitting against each other and breaking during shipping. Another tip when packing gift items is to reinforce the tape at all the seams on the box. This allows you to make sure that the tape will hold together during shipping, preventing the box from breaking open and the contents spilling out. If this is done correctly, you should see an H on both the top and bottom of your box. It also helps when you use real packing tape on all of your boxes instead of duct tape, or other kinds of tape, because nothing else holds up as well during transit.

You also want to remove old labels from boxes you are re using so they don’t end up misrouted by the carrier, and end up getting lost in the mail. It is also important to make sure that you remove the batteries from all electronics and toys. This will prevent noises coming out of your box, and officials thinking that there is something in the box that shouldn’t be there. Many carriers also allow you to schedule pick ups from your computer, saving you a trip to their stores. In case the outer label becomes illegible, it is also helpful to place an extra label inside the box. Some carriers will open the box to look for this extra label if necessary.
